FOSTER WHEELER COMMENCES
ENGINEERING DESIGN WORK ON THE FIRST OIL REFINERY IN VIETNAM
CLINTON, NJ, April 8, 1998
- Foster Wheeler Corporation announced today that it has commenced work
on the contract with Vietross, a Vietnamese/Russian joint venture-PetroVietnam
(Vietnam's state-owned oil company) and Zarubezhneft (Russia's state-run
organization)-to provide front-end engineering design for the Dung Quat
Refinery in Vietnam. The contract, valued at US$15 million, is being executed
by UK-based Foster Wheeler Energy Limited.
The Dung Quat refinery,
located in the central province of Quang Ngai, will be the first built
in Vietnam. The refinery, owned by Vietross, will process 6.5 million tons
of Bach Ho crude oil per year (about 130,000 barrels a day) and produce
refined products for domestic consumption and regional export.
Ian M. Bill, Chairman and
Chief Executive of Foster Wheeler Energy Limited, said: "We are delighted
to be selected for the Vietross Refinery Project. This is a major win for
Foster Wheeler that was made possible with the support of the British government."
Contract negotiations, handled by Foster Wheeler's UK office, received
the continuing support of the UK government and its Ambassador in Hanoi.
The contract award puts
Foster Wheeler in a leading position as the project develops. The overall
refinery venture is projected to be about US$1.3 billion.
